The Municipal Corporation, in coordination with the police, has ordered the eviction of 7,000 Muslim households as part of a demolition drive scheduled for May 20. Police Commissioner Gyanendra Singh Malik described the locality as a “hub of Bangladeshis.” Residents alleged that no prior notice was served and claimed to possess valid documentation. Some have been living in the area for over 50 years. This follows an earlier demolition by the administration, during which over 2,000 homes were razed under the pretext of targeting illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
