In Almora, CM Dhami Pushes ‘Land Jihad’ Crackdown and Attacks Opposition Over Madrasas

Location: Almora, Uttarakhand

During a “Multi-purpose Camp towards the Administration Village,” Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami accused the Opposition, particularly Congress, of prioritising alleged illegal mazars and opposing encroachment drives while ignoring temples. He claimed his government would not allow any “Mughal mentality” to encroach land in Devbhoomi and reiterated measures to protect the state’s “culture and demographic composition.” Dhami highlighted implementation of laws against religious conversion, “love jihad,” “land jihad,” and “thook jihad,” alleging Congress opposes action against “jihadi,” “Mughal and kattarwadi (radical)” and “Mullawadi” mentality due to vote-bank politics, accusing them of settling Muslims in Devbhoomi. He alleged that he and his government would not let any “Jihadi mentality” encroach land in Devbhoomi. He claimed over 10,000 acres of government land had been “freed” from alleged encroachment under action against “land jihad.” He also defended the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, action against alleged illegal madrasas, and a proposed dissolution of the Madrasa Board, asserting only institutions following prescribed curricula would be allowed. He claimed that the government was acting against a “divisive mentality.” Dhami stated, “In Devbhoomi, we want to establish temples of knowledge and values, not separatist centres that promote jihadi mindsets,” claiming closure of 250 madrasas, which he described as “illegal” and accused of misleading children, claiming Congress has issues with this too. Referring to “Operation Kalnemi,” Dhami said his government was acting against “ghuspaithiya (infiltrators), pakhandi (hypocrites), and vidharmi” elements allegedly targeting and harming Sanatan culture, warning that such activities would not be tolerated in Uttarakhand.
