BJP MLA and Maharashtra Minister for Fisheries Nitesh Rane, at an election campaign, referred to Muslims as “green snakes” and peddled the conspiracy theories of “love jihad” and “land jihad.” He claimed that these were occurring in Amravati and promised “retribution” in localities there. He also falsely claimed that 30 per cent of Mumbai’s population consists of “Bangladeshis” and “Rohingyas,” and sought votes for the BJP by asserting that no “Rohingyas” or “Bangladeshis” would be seen in Amravati after the election results.
