In Bathinda, Hate Speech Targets Christians and Muslims; BJP Leader Calls for Harsh Laws

Location: Bathinda, Punjab

At a saint’s convention organised by the Antarrashtriya Hindu Sikh Mahasabha, Swami Rupendraprakash fearmongered about alleged religious conversion and demographic change, claiming widespread conversions from the North-East to Uttarakhand and peddling conspiracy theories of “love jihad” and “land jihad.” BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay called for the use of UAPA, NSA, the Gangster Act, and treason charges against missionaries, “jihadis,” and jamatis, labelling them as part of organised crime. Attendees also raised slogans calling for a Christian-free Punjab.
