In Bhopal, BJP MLA Threatens Demolition of Mathura Mosque

Location: Karond, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh

At a Janmashtami event, BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma peddled the anti-Muslim conspiracy theory of “love jihad,” calling for “love jihadis” to be “crushed” and saying those who insult Hindu women should be buried underground. He also declared that, after serving Ram, it was now time to serve Krishna, and that the “structure in Mathura” would be demolished to make way for a grand temple, referring to the Shahi Idgah Mosque. He claimed that Hindus do not occupy others’ land but would break any occupation of their temples and rebuild them. Addressing “mullas and maulvis,” he urged them to “mend their ways” after benefiting from India’s resources. He said Muslims who become figures such as Ashfaqulla Khan or APJ Abdul Kalam would be saluted, but threatened that those who become terrorists would be “dealt with” so that no more terrorists could be produced. He also invoked India’s missile capabilities, saying that a missile could be launched from Karond and dropped on Qazi Camp, a Muslim-majority neighbourhood in Bhopal. He then clarified that he meant a Qazi Camp in Islamabad and warned that if terrorists attacked India, “bombs will be falling at your doors.” The presenter at the event also welcomed actress Ada Sharma, who starred in the film The Kerala Story, and praised her work on raising awareness against “love jihad.”
