Local administration demolished the houses and shops belonging to the accused Muslim men following a violent clash between two groups over water for agricultural fields on June 13 that resulted in the death of Vinod Kashyap, a local Hindu nationalist leader reportedly affiliated with the BJP and Bajrang Dal. The action came after members of Hindu nationalist groups attacked and set fire to the houses of the accused and demanded that they be bulldozed. During the demolition drive, Hindu nationalist supporters also chanted the slogan, “One must chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’ in order to live in Hindustan.”
