In Dehradun, Dhami Defends ‘Operation Kalnemi’ and Madrasa Board Dissolution

Location: Dehradun, Uttarakhand

At “Destination Uttarakhand 2.0” Conclave organised by Times of India, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami highlighted his government’s measures to maintain the “culture and demographic composition” of the state. He mentioned the implementation of laws against religious conversion, riots, “love jihad,” “land jihad,” and “thook jihad,” and claimed that strict action was being taken against those encroaching government lands. Dhami referenced an initiative called “Operation Kalnemi,” describing it as a campaign against “jihadis” who he alleged were targeting and harming “Sanatan Sanskriti.” He claimed that action against “land jihad” had resulted in “freeing” over 10,000 acres of government land from what he termed “land jihadis.” He claimed that the government was acting against a “divisive mentality” by introducing a bill to dissolve the madrasa board, adding that only those madrasas in Uttarakhand that teach the syllabus prescribed by their respective education boards would be allowed to operate. Dhami stated, “In Devbhoomi, we want to establish temples of knowledge and values, not separatist centres that promote tribal or isolationist mindsets,” claiming closure of 250 madrasas, which he described as “illegal” and accused of misleading children.
