In Delhi, VHP Leader Seeks “Jihad-Mukt” Chhath; Tells Muslims to Avoid Festivals

Location: Delhi

At a Mahaparv Chhath Puja Mahotsav, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Surendra Kumar Gupta delivered a speech calling for Delhi to be made “jihad-mukt” (free of jihad), the Chhath celebration to be “jihad-mukt,” framing it as a necessity to ensure the safety of Hindus. He asked Muslims to stay away from Hindu festivals, temples, and religious events. He claimed his organization had alerted Delhi authorities to investigate certain suspected individuals. Gupta framed Partition and contemporary geopolitics as justification for exclusion, suggested that Muslims who are “unhappy” could go to countries that implement Shariat law, and warned communities not to shelter “jihadi” elements in homes, lanes, or shops if they want “peace.” He warned that VHP members are ready to act to “protect Hindu society.”
