In Garukhuti, Assam CM Sarma Calls Bengali Muslims “Bangladeshis” and Defends Evictions

Location: Garukhuti, Darrang, Assam

At a government event held at a state-run agricultural project, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma targeted Bengali-speaking Muslims in the state, referring to them as “suspected Bangladeshis.” Citing recent eviction drives, he claimed that land had been reclaimed from “Bangladeshis.” He also dismissed slogans promoting communal harmony and stated that the project did not require government land occupied by Assamese people, but rather land that, according to him, could potentially be taken over by suspected Bangladeshis in the future.
