At a Hindu Jan Akrosh Morcha organised by Sakal Hindu Samaj, BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar accused Muslims of encroaching on land and constructing mosques and called on the police to demolish such structures. He also listed villages with what he described as “Muslim names” and vowed that they would be renamed. Padalkar spread the conspiracies of “love jihad,” “juice jihad,” and “corporate jihad”; claimed these were part of a wider effort to convert Hindus to Islam; and fearmongered about alleged Bangladeshi infiltration into India.
At the same event, politician Dr Dhavalsinh Mohite-Patil used the anti-Muslim slur “lande”, berated Muslims, and questioned whether justice could be obtained through the Constitution for those who, according to him, did not believe in it.
