In Himachal Pradesh, VHP-Bajrang Dal Speakers Call for Economic Boycott of Muslims

Location: Ghumarwin, Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh

At a VHP-Bajrang Dal event, several speakers delivered anti-Muslim and anti-Christian speeches. One of the speakers alleged that Christian missionaries were converting members of the “backward sections” of Hindu society, including Dalits, claiming that converts often retained their clothing and outward appearance while changing their faith. He later promoted the anti-Muslim “love jihad” conspiracy theory, warned the audience about the dangers posed by women using social media, and accused Muslims of engaging in different forms of “jihad”, urging Hindus to strengthen their society to protect themselves. Another speaker criticised Hindus for employing Muslim workers, such as mehendi artists, during festivals like Karva Chauth and Ganesh Chaturthi, asserting that “vidharmis” should not profit from Hindu festivals. Calling for a boycott of non-Hindu employees, shops and businesses, he urged the audience to patronise only Hindu drivers, rickshaw pullers, grocers and vegetable vendors. He claimed that money earned by Muslims would be used to “elope with your daughters, slaughter your cows, destroy your temples and kill your own”, and urged the gathering to conduct police verification and other background checks before renting out their houses, citing instances of elopement.
