At the Shri Ram Katha Mahotsav, BJP MLA Balmukund Acharya delivered an anti-Muslim and anti-Christian speech, dogwhistling that one community had reached a population of “48 crore.” He claimed that “chadar-wearers” and “cross-wearers” had spread across “57 and 110 countries” respectively, which he claimed were once linked to Hindu civilization, and alleged conspiracies to cut and divide Hindus. He further criticised family planning norms, referencing “Hum Do, Hamara Ek,” and claimed that the other community followed “four wives and 36 children.” He also alleged that practices like talaq were introduced by Mughals and divorce by the British.
