In Jwalapur, VHP–Bajrang Dal Leaders Call for Revenge, Threaten Haridwar ‘Cleansing’

Location: Jwalapur, Haridwar, Uttarakhand

During a VHP–Bajrang Dal Shaurya Yatra, participants brandished weapons, and alleged that stones were pelted at their procession. They raised slogans against “love jihad.” A speaker declared that they had already “forgiven all the mistakes they had to” and “it is now the time for revenge.” VHP-Bajrang Dal leader Anuj Walia claimed that the police uniform is only respected until “bhagwa” (saffron) exists or else they will have to wear a topi and beard. He declared that similar to how the “taint” on Ayodhya was removed, they will do the same to the “taint” on Haridwar. He warned– “the hand that holds a stone, we will uproot that hand,” and that Bajrang Dal will take responsibility for protecting the Hindu community. Following the incident, VHP–Bajrang Dal members arrived with a bulldozer and warned of a state-wide protest if arrests were not made within 24 hours.
