Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, speaking at the birth anniversary programme of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay organised by the Citizen Empowerment Forum, declared that his government would introduce a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and stricter laws against what he termed “love jihad,” “land jihad,” and “forced religious conversions.” He also claimed that immigrants from Bangladesh enter through the border to weaken the country through “love jihad,” “land jihad,” and other forms of jihad, and asserted that they would be detained in holding centres and deported. Referring to the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he asserted that Hindu immigrants are not “infiltrators” but refugees. He also called for the compulsory singing of Vande Mataram in government-recognised educational institutions. Invoking Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Swami Pranabananda, he described West Bengal as “Bengali Hindu Homeland” and linked his party’s vision to the protection of the state’s borders, religious identity, and cultural values.
