In Lucknow, Mahant Raju Das Urges Hindus to Be ‘Kattar’ and Fearmongers About Muslim Rule

Location: Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh

During the Hindu Sammelan, organised to mark the centenary of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), far-right monk Mahant Raju Das urged Hindus to be “kattar” (radical). He engaged in fearmongering against Muslims, claiming that they have “three wives and 73 children” and warning that, in a democracy, they would eventually be elected to power, discard the Constitution, strip the police of their uniforms, and leave only Islam in place. He also dehumanised Muslims by referring to them as “pigs.”

Far-right monk Mahant Raju Das alleged that an AIMIM leader’s statement mocking the opposition after the Mumbai Municipal election was part of a conspiracy for “Islamisation,” claiming that Hindus are safe only while in the majority. He cited Afghanistan, asserting that “only terrorist ideology remained,” and alleging that even their books promote it. He promoted the anti-Muslim conspiracy theories of “love jihad” and forced religious conversions, questioning why Hindus were converting. He claimed that Hindus were being divided and reduced, citing the partition into Pakistan and Bangladesh, and further referenced the killing of Dipu Chandra Das. Claiming to cite Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, he alleged that Muslims cannot be nationalist or loyal to the Constitution, asserting that they follow only “one community, one religion, one sect.” He fearmongered that if Muslim populations were equal to Hindus, temples and religious sites would be unsafe, and cited alleged Mughal persecution to claim that a divided Hindu community would be killed.
