During an election campaign rally, BJP candidate Amlan Bhaduri invoked Partition and Shyama Prasad Mukherjee’s vision of preserving Bengal as the only “Hindu Bengali homeland.” He claimed that under the present government, “illegal infiltrators” would change the demography of Bengal within 10 years, as he alleged is happening along the border areas. Former BJP MP Sanjit Mitra claimed that the present government has sheltered “Bangladeshi infiltrators” and “Rohingyas” from Myanmar. He further claimed that as soon as the Special Intensive Revision began, border towns and slums across Kolkata were deserted as people allegedly fled across the border.
