In Mathura, BJP Leader Ashwini Upadhyay Calls for Closure of Madrasas

Location: Mathura, Uttar Pradesh

At a Dharma Raksha Sammelan organised by Bhootpurva Sainik Parishad (Ex-Servicemen Council), BJP leader and lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay contrasted Dharma with “mazhab”, claiming that Dharma unites people while mazhab promotes enmity. He claimed that Hindus have been “erased” from parts of Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kashmir, and several Indian states and districts. He called for an Indian Naming Code to replace place names he described as “symbols of slavery” and an Indian Heritage Code to restore temples and monasteries he claimed were demolished during centuries of Muslim rule. He also called for scientific surveys of religious sites to determine whether they were originally temples or mosques, citing Hindu religious sites. He further called for a uniform law for all religions, criticised separate religious laws, and called for the closure of “Mughal-style” madrasas and “British-style” convent and Montessori schools in favour of a uniform ancient Indian education system.
