Members of Shiv Sena, led by District President Virendra Arora, staged a protest to march towards the Shahi Jama Masjid site in Sambhal, which the Hindu nationalists had been claiming as Harihar temple, for jalabhishek (water offering ritual). Participants raised slogans including, “We will go to the Harihar Temple in Sambhal and offer water there,” and “Whoever speaks for Hindu interests will rule the country.” Police barricaded the Budh Bazaar area and detained many individuals amid a scuffle between protesters and police.
