Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kirit Somaiya led a campaign in Mumbai targeting people he described as “illegal Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators.” He claimed—without evidence—that “Bangladeshi Muslim gangs” and a “hawkers mafia” had taken over areas around Mumbai railway stations and said the campaign aimed to “free Mumbai from Bangladeshi Muslims.” Somaiya announced coordinated actions in Ghatkopar, Kurla West, Mulund West, and Bhandup West, and stated that the campaign would be expanded across Mumbai within 15 days. Municipal officials, police personnel, railway authorities, and several BJP leaders and activists accompanied him during the action.
