During the Narendra Mohan Smriti Lecture and Jagran Sahitya Srujan Samman ceremony organised by Dainik Jagran group, Union Home Minister Amit Shah engaged in fearmongering over the Muslim population in the country. Shah attributed this change not only to fertility rates but also to alleged “ghuspaith” (infiltration) from Pakistan and Bangladesh. He also claimed that the rise in the Muslim population in Bengal and Assam is fueled by state politics, alleging that some leaders have made ghuspaithiyas their vote banks. Shah called for the implementation of the “3Ds – Detect, Delete, and Deport” policy to deal with infiltrators, arguing that they disrupt the country’s democracy. He accused ghuspaithiyas of snatching the rights of the poor and capturing land in tribal regions, and referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “High-Power Demographic Mission” to tackle them.
