At the Vyakhyanmala event organised by Rajbhau Ramshankar Smriti, BJP leader and Supreme Court lawyer Ashwini Upadhyay spread the conspiracy of “love jihad,” claiming that 1,000 girls fall victim every day and 400,000 each year. He declared, “When girls fall victim to ‘love jihad,’ their entire generation is wiped out.” He demanded that anyone accused of “love jihad” be stripped of citizenship. He also fearmongered about “infiltration” and religious conversions, claiming that 6 crore “illegal infiltrators” live in India. He warned of a demographic shift and Hindu population decline.
