In Varanasi, Hindu leader vandalises hospital pillars claiming they were part of a mazar

Location: Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh

Hindu nationalist leader Atul Kull led a group in vandalising the pillars of a Government Women’s Hospital, claiming they were part of a mazar and painting them with vermillion to “purify” the site. However, the hospital director, in a letter to the police and SDM, clarified that the structures were part of the building’s drainage system for terrace water and had no religious significance.
