As India celebrates Bakrid (Eid al-Adha) on May 28, a controversy has emerged in Uttarakhand over the historic Jama Masjid mosque. Members of a Hindutva group have demanded that the mosque authorities vacate the premises by June 1, claiming the building is illegal and unauthorized.

In a video recorded on Thursday, Bhupesh Joshi, President of Uttarakhand Kali Sena, is seen directly instructing Aseem, a senior mosque official, to vacate the premises.

Joshi stated that out of respect for the ongoing Eid festival, his group had requested the district administration not to seal the mosque immediately. However, he warned that failure to vacate by the June 1 deadline would result in the building being sealed.

The video also shows police personnel present at the site, standing as observers without intervening in the confrontation.

This incident has raised concerns about communal tensions during a major religious festival. The demand has sparked debate over the legal status of the mosque property and the timing of such actions.

Local authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the matter, while the mosque committee is expected to respond to the notice. The development has drawn attention to the delicate balance between law enforcement and religious sentiments in the state.
