
A 26-year-old man committed suicide on Wednesday after accusing Kudremukh police personnel of assaulting and abusing in a note.
The victim identified as Nagesh from Samse village in Kalasa Taluk of Karnataka alleged that constable, Siddesh subjected him to physical torture and casteist slurs and sub-inspector Adarsh of not taking action against him despite lodging complaint.
Nagesh was found hanged and left behind a note which made allegations come to light.
The complaint was filed by Nagesh on July 15. In his complaint, he alleged that when he was returning home in his autorickshaw, Sidhesh and two local men who were standing near a road intercepted him. The constable then assaulted him and passed derogatory casteist remarks.
He alleged that after the incident, he went to file a complaint at Kudremukh police station where he met sub-inspector Adarsh who didn’t listen to his allegations.
Surprisingly, police filed a complaint against Nagesh for “obstructing a public servant on duty. The police also confiscated his autorickshaw and detained him.
Although released on bail after some time, Nagesh deeply feared continued police assault. His family said that he was unable to recover his vehicle and faced financial struggle which forced him to take the extreme step.
