The Udayamperoor police, under the Kochi City Police in Kerala, have registered a case after a Pakistan flag was allegedly displayed during a pastoral prayer meeting at a hall in Kandanad on Sunday, based on a complaint filed by a BJP leader.

The complaint was lodged by BJP Ernakulam district president Sreekuttan against the event held at the Udayamperoor Jesus Generation auditorium, leading to the booking of the pastor, the auditorium owner, and event organiser Deepak Jacob.

The police booked the pastor under Section 196(1)(a) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (whoever, by words—spoken or written—or by signs, visible representations, electronic communication, or otherwise, promotes or attempts to promote, on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, caste, or community or any other ground whatsoever, disharmony or feelings of enmity, hatred, or ill-will between different religious, racial, language, or regional groups or castes or communities) and under Section 2 of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act (insult to the Indian national flag and the Constitution of India).

The Pakistan flag was displayed along with the flags of approximately 20 other countries, reportedly used during prayers for each nation.

Police have seized all the flags and stated that they will be produced before the court.
