Notices have been issued to 13 students of Lucknow University for offering namaz at Lal Baradari, with authorities citing a challan report from Hasanganj police station stating that the act created tension on campus and that the possibility of a future disturbance to public peace cannot be ruled out.
On this basis, the Executive Magistrate has directed all 13 students to submit a personal bond of ₹50,000 and two sureties of ₹50,000 each as a guarantee of maintaining peace and law and order for one year.
The issuance of notices comes amid ongoing student protests that broke out at Lucknow University on Sunday after the administration fenced off Lal Baradari, a Mughal-era structure located on the campus, citing safety concerns.
Student groups alleged that the move effectively restricted access for Muslim students who offer prayers inside the structure during Ramzan, a claim the university administration has denied.
The protest began on Sunday after Zuhr prayers, as fencing work commenced amid heavy police deployment.
