Man in Hanuman Costume Climbs Eidgah Boundary During Shivratri Rally in Unnao, Sparks Communal Harmony Concerns.

By Muslim Mirror Desk

A viral video from Maurawan town in Unnao district, Uttar Pradesh, has raised concerns over communal harmony. During a Mahashivratri procession under heavy police supervision, a man dressed as Lord Hanuman climbed the boundary wall of a local Eidgah.

The footage shows him jumping, gesturing, and waving what appears to be a mace before descending and leaving the spot.

The procession halted briefly near the Eidgah, and the act was captured on video, quickly spreading across social media. Local residents, particularly from the Muslim community, have described it as a deliberate provocation and disrespectful to their place of worship, causing hurt and fear.

One elder remarked that such actions undermine decades of peaceful coexistence, while another highlighted perceived unequal treatment of religious sites.

Unnao Police have taken note of the clip. Senior officers directed the Maurawan station in-charge to investigate, identify the individual, and determine if any laws were violated. A police official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the situation remains calm with no violence reported, and patrols have increased as a precaution. Social media monitoring continues to curb rumours.

Community voices from both sides urged restraint. Hindu residents emphasized that one person’s act should not damage relations, while Muslim locals and activists called for strict action to prevent recurrence and ensure fair protection. A local cleric appealed for patience, stressing the need for firm administrative response.

The incident echoes past tensions in Uttar Pradesh during festivals, including reported provocations near mosques in Aligarh and Sambhal in March 2025, and a fatal attack in Unnao that year. Authorities are reviewing CCTV and other evidence for a transparent probe.
