A man named Prempal from Meerganj area in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district was arrested on July 9 for allegedly attempting unlawful religious conversion.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by Ankit, who accused Prempal of gathering people and luring them with “benefits” to change their religion. Acting swiftly on the complaint, police booked Prempal under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. He was later produced before a court and sent to judicial remand.
Superintendent of Police (South) Bareilly, Anshika Verma, confirmed the development and informed that several incriminating items were seized from the accused during the raid, including six books and a mobile phone. The items are being examined for further evidence.
