A series of violent incidents at Dr. Hari Singh Gour University in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar has triggered serious concerns over campus safety after members of the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) alleged two life-threatening attacks within five days by individuals linked to ABVP–RSS.
Students claim the assaults were carried out to suppress academic and democratic activities on campus, while memorandums and police complaints submitted by the victims point to administrative inaction.
According to a written complaint submitted to the university Proctor on February 23, AISF members said they were targeted following a peaceful study circle and unit conference held on February 20, after prior written intimation to authorities seeking security arrangements.
Students alleged that a group of nearly 100–150 individuals disrupted the AISF programme and physically assaulted participants.
The gathering, described by organisers as an academic discussion promoting scientific temper and rational debate, was allegedly attacked despite advance communication to university officials and the police requesting preventive measures.
Bittu Kumar, a B.Com student at the varsity and one of the victims, told Maktoob that students were assaulted without provocation.
“We organised a peaceful academic programme. Instead of protection, we faced violence. Even after reporting the incident earlier, no effective action was taken,” he said.
