In a shocking hate crime reported from Karnataka’s Hyderabad, a Muslim delivery boy was brutally assaulted due to his religious identity by two men.
The incident took place on Tuesday night at Moghalpura in Old City. The victim identified as Muhammad Nadeem hails from Talab Katta and had gone to deliver a parcel to Sultanpur Shahi.
On his way to the delivery address, he was intercepted by two men who asked about his name and started to attack him.
Nadeem sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Osmania Hospital by locals and family.
Nadeem and his family later filed a complaint at Moghalpura police station. The police registered a case against anonymous individuals under 117(2) and 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The incident is shockingly a recurring phenomenon. Hate crimes like lynchings, brutal assaults, harrassment and killings over the allegations of cattle smuggling continue to be reported across the country.
Rights groups, civil society groups and activists continue to warn the country of rising Islamophobia and attacks on other minorities. The law enforcement is accused of siding with the perpetrators with reports of shocking custodial torture.
A recent incident of custodial torture of a minor Muslim boy in Uttar Pradesh shocked the nation. The boy was picked up by police who say that a complaint was filed against him for “announcing the re-opening of his father’s chicken shop in a local mosque.”
The watchdogs often express their shock over these incidents and have called for immediate measures to ensure the safety and security of minorities in the country.
