Muslim teacher faces Islamophobic abuse, expelled from Karnataka village during socio-economic survey (Muslim Mirror)

A Muslim woman from Karnataka’s Bhimasandra village near Tumakuru city allegedly faced Islamophobic slurs and was expelled from the village for carrying out an assigned survey.

The teacher identified as Reshma was assigned to conduct a socio-economic and educational census survey by the Permanent Commission for Backward Classes.

Reportedly, Reshma who went door to door to carry out the survey faced harassment and verbal abuse at the hands of villagers who questioned her presence and asked for her ID.

The media reports emerging about the incident reveal that Reshma was asked, “Why are you coming to Hindus homes?”

Several locals allegedly subjected her to Islamophobia slurs and asked her if her intention behind coming was to include the Hindus in her community.

Reshma was eventually forced to leave the village due to abuse and slurs by locals.

Video footage emerged on social media of the incident. After the video went viral, the police launched an investigation.

Social media users reacted to the video and said that the hate has unfortunately reached every corner across the country. Many noted that due to her religious identity, she was targeted for trying to do what her job required her to do.
