MEERUT — A delegation from the Muslim community met senior police officials in Meerut on Thursday and requested additional time to submit documents related to a mosque located inside the Kharkhoda police station premises, where a dispute is currently under examination by the authorities.
The delegation, led by Naib Shahar Qazi Zainur Rashiddin, submitted a memorandum to Meerut Range DIG Kalanidhi Naithani and SSP Avinash Pandey. Community representatives said the mosque is an old religious site with a history stretching back several decades and urged the administration to allow more time for the collection and submission of relevant records.
According to the memorandum, documents connected to the mosque are available, but those responsible for maintaining the records require additional time to gather and present them before the authorities.
Members of the delegation informed officials that the mosque was registered with the Uttar Pradesh Sunni Waqf Board in 1985. They said the process of compiling and submitting records relating to the mosque is currently under way and that the relevant documents would be provided to the police administration.
Representatives of the Muslim community also requested that the matter be considered in the same manner as cases involving religious structures situated within other government premises and departments across the district. They urged the administration to ensure that all parties are heard before any decision is taken and that all documents are examined fairly and impartially.
“The mosque is very old and records relating to it exist. We have requested additional time so that all relevant documents can be collected and presented before the authorities,” members of the delegation said during the meeting.
The delegation further stressed the need for a careful and unbiased review of the available records before any action is considered. They maintained that documentary evidence relating to the mosque should be examined alongside revenue records and other official documents.
