The incident comes days after three persons were arrested on Tuesday morning for allegedly slaughtering cows in an open field near a housing society in Vejalpur, Ahmedabad.
Acting on a tip-off, Vejalpur police raided the spot and found a group allegedly slaughtering cows behind bushes. Several individuals fled, but three were apprehended on the spot.
During the raid, authorities seized 520 kg of meat valued at Rs 1,56,000, a live calf, sharp knives, an autorickshaw, a car without a number plate, and a mobile phone.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Gujarat Animal Preservation Act, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Police have booked nine persons in total, though only three have been arrested so far. Cow slaughter remains strictly banned across Gujarat.
The viral video has triggered widespread debate on social media regarding the police action.
