A disturbing incident in Muzaffarnagar’s Khalapar area has triggered widespread outrage after a woman was allegedly stripped of her hijab and a Hindu man accompanying her was physically assaulted by a group of men.
A video of the attack, which has gone viral on social media, shows a man forcibly removing the woman’s hijab while others verbally abuse and assault her.
Six accused individuals were arrested later that evening. However, video footage of the accused limping while being escorted at the police station has raised eyebrows, with many on social media questioning whether the injuries were staged.
“On April 12, between approximately 4 and 4:30 PM, a Hindu man from Bhavan and a Muslim woman from Khalapar, both associated with Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, were returning from Sujdu after collecting a loan installment. They were stopped and assaulted by some locals in Darzi Wali Gali,” said City Circle Officer (CO) Raju Kumar Sao.
CO Raju Kumar Sao added, “Further arrests will be made as more people are identified from the video. Strict legal action will follow.”
According to the police complaint, the woman said she had been accompanying one of her mother’s colleagues to collect an EMI on behalf of Utkarsh Small Finance Bank when they were stopped and attacked.
