A family in Khanpur village of Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh has accused the police of storming into their home, forcibly taking away a family member on allegations of cow slaughter, snatching the CCTV DVR, and threatening the family with a “half encounter” of a family member accused of cow slaughter.

Allah Meher Qureshi alias Majid (33) was allegedly dragged out of his house as his family resisted on September 19 and arrested on charges of cow slaughter on Friday, September 19.

Qureshi, who is involved in the business of dairy and buffalo milk production, was picked up by the Mundha Panday police on Sunday from his home for allegedly being involved in illegally slaughtering cows.

The family alleged that police misbehaved with the female family members and tore their clothes while they were trying to resist the arrest. They were also threatened by the police with a ‘half encounter’ of Qureshi.

Speaking to Maktoob, Qureshi’s sister Ajmaeen said, “My brother was sleeping when the police stormed our house in the evening yesterday. Upon arriving, they first took out the DVR of the CCTV installed in our house.”

“They then forcibly dragged out Majid and took him away without furnishing a reason for the arrest. While we were trying to inquire about the reason for the arrest, they misbehaved with us, abused us and tore our clothes,” she added.

The family claims officers openly threatened that Allah Meher would be subjected to a “half encounter”, a term commonly used in Uttar Pradesh for staged injuries in police custody.
