A row broke out in Kerala’s Palakkad after explosives were discovered outside the RSS-run Vyasa Vidya Peethom primary school in Vadakanthara on Wednesday, following an explosion triggered when a student threw one of the devices, causing panic in the area.

Education Minister V. Sivankutty on Friday directed the Palakkad District Deputy Director of Education to issue a show-cause notice on why the school’s NOC should not be cancelled.
Sivankutty said he will not allow schools and their surroundings to become weapon storage centres.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Narayanan, a 10-year-old student, discovered the explosives near the school gate around 3:45 pm on Wednesday. Excited by the find, he threw one of the devices on the ground, which exploded with a loud sound, injuring both himself and 84-year-old Leela, who was standing nearby.

School staff and local residents rushed to the spot and alerted the police.

A search led to the recovery of four more explosives hidden in a bucket. Police confirmed that the devices were of a “dangerous nature” and had been placed there with the intent to endanger human life.

Both injured victims were taken to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
