A public hearing convened at the Constitution Club of India on Tuesday brought together legal experts, activists, and public figures to deliberate on the rising incidents of violence, vandalism, hate speech, and legal intimidation targeting places of worship belonging to minority communities across India.
The event was organised by the Indian Muslims for Civil Rights (IMCR) in collaboration with the Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR).
At a meeting coordinated by Nadeem Khan, National Secretary of APCR, participants shared accounts of alleged incidents involving damage to religious structures, threats to caretakers, and disruptions of religious activities. Former judges, Members of Parliament, senior advocates, journalists, religious leaders and activists were among those present at the forum.
Several speakers called for stronger institutional safeguards, accountability mechanisms and stricter enforcement of existing laws to ensure the protection of constitutional rights. Rajyasabha MP Sanjay Singh said that we must fight against the injustices that are taking place, and we must fight them together, united.
“BJP is not India. Modi is not India. Those who spread hatred are not India,” he said.
Referring to Sambhal, he mentioned the judge who ordered an FIR against then Circle Officer Anuj Chaudhary and questioned why people choose to recite the Hanuman Chalisa in front of a mosque instead of praying at a temple.
