A student, Aftaab Hussain from Poonch, Jammu Kashmir, was reportedly assaulted and forcibly detained during Navratri Garba celebrations in Sagar, reported Amar Ujala.

Viral videos circulating online show him being dragged by a mob while being verbally abused.

Members of right-wing groups, including Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), and Hindu Jagran Manch, alleged he misrepresented his identity to enter the event.

Aftaab, a student at Dr. Harisingh Gour University (DHSGSU) with no criminal record, is said to be innocent, with no unlawful intent.

He was handed over to Motinagar police for questioning. Authorities are investigating, and calls have been made for his immediate release, medical care, and protection.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of Kashmiri students and the communalisation of cultural events.
