Student leader and former student of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Talha Mannan, along with 8–10 unidentified students, has been booked for allegedly raising pro-Palestine slogans during student protests at AMU against the recent fee hike and in support of restoring the Students’ Union.
According to a complaint filed on Monday by Hindu Raksha Dal district president Sanjay Arya, one video showed Talha Mannan and others carrying a Palestinian flag and raising pro-Palestine slogans, which he claimed “threatened social peace and harmony in the city.”
An FIR was registered on Monday at the Civil Lines police station under Sections 223 (disobedience of an order duly promulgated by a public servant) and 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Mannan and nine unidentified students.
Talha Mannan is Student leader and PhD scholar of Maulana Azad National University (MANUU) Hyderabad.
Calling the protest “unauthorised,” the complainant alleged that it had been “held since 04.08.25 without any permission.” He further claimed that “protest marches are also being taken out inside the campus, almost daily by different faculties, without approval.”
“Talha Mannan, along with 8–10 associates, was raising provocative slogans in support of Palestine and inciting the crowd in various ways. Photos and videos of these slogans are going viral on social media. In these videos and photos, Talha can be seen wearing a scarf displaying the Palestinian flag,” read the complaint.
According to the complaint, this could have an “adverse effect on maintaining harmony among different sections of society,” and the circulation of these visuals is “disturbing public peace and order.”
Following a sudden fee hike at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), students launched protests at the Baab-e-Syed gate, calling the hike “unfair” for poor and marginalised backgrounds and demanding the reinstatement of the Students’ Union, withdrawal of detentions, and reinstatement of suspended students.
