In a disturbing incident that has sparked widespread outrage, two Muslim youths were allegedly beaten by a Hindu right-wing mob in the Lambhua area of Sultanpur district, Uttar Pradesh, after they refused to chant “Jai Shri Ram”.

The assault, which occurred earlier this week, was captured on video and has since gone viral on social media platforms.
Footage from the incident shows the assailants kicking and slapping the two young men while they were seated on a motorcycle. The attackers then dragged them off the bike. In the videos, the mob can be heard confronting the victims with the question: “Bharat mei hokar Jai Shri Ram nahi bologey?” (You live in India and you won’t say Jai Shri Ram?). The perpetrators also demanded the victims’ phones and attempted to steal their motorcycle.
Local police have taken suo motu cognisance of the viral videos and initiated an investigation. Lambhua area officer confirmed that two accused have been identified and teams have been formed to arrest them. “Following their arrest, further legal proceedings will be initiated,” he stated. As of now, no arrests have been made.
