On Tuesday, July 14, revenue department officials carried out a demolition drive in Madhan village against an alleged illegally constructed Eidgah built on land officially recorded as a graveyard. The operation, executed with the help of a bulldozer, followed a formal order issued by the tehsildar’s court under the provisions of the Uttar Pradesh Revenue Code to remove the encroachment.
The disputed structure stood on plot number 208, spanning 0.0070 hectares (approximately 70 square metres), located along the Asmoli-Lodhipur road. According to Tehsildar Dhirendra Pratap Singh, plots 208, 210, 218, and 417 were originally reserved for use as a graveyard. While plot 210 continues to serve its intended purpose, plot 208 was allegedly repurposed into an Eidgah by altering its designated use.
Singh stated that the administration acted after receiving demands from local villagers to clear the encroachment and restore the land to its original graveyard status. The drive was conducted under heavy police deployment to ensure law and order was maintained throughout the operation.
Officials confirmed that the action was strictly in accordance with the court’s directive. Further legal proceedings against the alleged encroachment are underway. The move has drawn attention to ongoing issues regarding the protection of public and religious land use in the region.
