In a significant move to promote Ayurveda and traditional Indian medicine, the Uttar Pradesh government has launched a pioneering initiative to develop Ayurvedic products based on Panchgavya — a traditional organic blend made from five cow-derived products: milk, curd, ghee, urine, and dung.
This initiative aims to revive and modernise India’s ancient healthcare knowledge while contributing to rural employment and enhancing the utility of cow shelters (gaushalas).
The government plans to produce a wide range of Ayurvedic formulations including toothpaste, ointments, and medicinal syrups using Panchgavya. These products will be developed scientifically and integrated officially into the Ayurvedic medicine system.
The move is supported by the AYUSH Department and seeks to combine traditional wisdom with modern research to ensure the efficacy and acceptance of these remedies in the broader healthcare landscape.
One of the key aspects of this initiative is the use of cow urine, which, according to experts, contains medicinal properties that help boost immunity and support overall well-being. Under this plan, cow urine-based remedies will be used in the treatment of 19 ailments such as diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, asthma, sinusitis, anaemia, and various skin conditions.
Dr. Anurag Srivastava, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at the Uttar Pradesh Gauseva Commission, emphasized that scientifically validated Panchgavya-based medicines will not only revive traditional knowledge systems but also help in creating employment for cowherds, farmers, and rural youth. The initiative is expected to enhance the relevance of gaushalas and provide an economic upliftment to rural communities.
By combining ancient Ayurvedic practices with modern scientific validation, this initiative marks a cultural and economic milestone. It aims to promote holistic health while positioning India’s traditional knowledge systems as a viable complement to modern medicine. — With Agencies Inputs
