Students at the B B Ambedkar University were allegedly attacked by ABVP over their objection to a puja on campus.

Tensions boiled over at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) in Lucknow on September 17, when a dispute between students and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members escalated into a violent confrontation over an unauthorized religious event.

The incident, rooted in objections to unapproved programs on campus, has ignited debates on religious expression, administrative oversight, and student safety.
Reports indicate that ABVP activists attempted to conduct a Vishwakarma Pooja—a ritual honoring the divine architect of the universe—without securing formal permission from university authorities.

This move drew immediate backlash from fellow students, who argued that such events undermine the secular ethos of an educational institution. The program was swiftly halted amid the uproar, but the standoff persisted as protesters from both sides staged sit-ins near the main gate well into the afternoon.

The university proctor intervened, meeting with the agitated groups and promising a thorough investigation the following day. As the objecting students began dispersing, however, ABVP members allegedly launched a brutal attack, wielding belts and rods.

At least three individuals—Mritunjay, Ritesh, and Adesh—sustained grievous injuries. Mritunjay, affiliated with the Disha Students’ Organisation, described suffering severe internal trauma, while his companions collapsed from the ferocity of the assault.
