NEW DELHI – Shops owned by Muslims were vandalised and several people assaulted in Uttarakhand’s Haldwani town after the head of a calf was found near a temple—an incident that police later traced to a dog dragging animal remains from a nearby forest.

On Sunday, local resident Ravinder Gupta filed a complaint with police after animal carcass parts were discovered at the gate of a school near a temple in the Banbhulpura area. A police investigation, aided by CCTV footage, found that a dog had brought the remains from the forest. According to preliminary findings, an animal had given birth in the forest and parts of the carcass were dragged outside.

Police have collected the remains for forensic examination.

A police officer told reporters:“The police got an information from the Bareilly road in Uttar Ujala Bhawan that the head of a particular animal was found. The police reached the spot and sent the carcasses for the investigation… a police team started investigating the incident. At prima facie, they found that a dog is bringing a piece of meat towards the area.”

He added:“The police will know whose meat is that after investigation. But it is certain that it was not dropped by anyone but a dog can be seen bringing it towards the spot.”
