A 24-year old youth named Virendra Singh has been arrested for killing and dumping his friend Aftab Alam over alleged beef related humiliation.The police reports revealed that the accused strangled Aftab Alam and dumped his body near a pond in Mahagaon Madai village.
Alam, aged 28, hailed from Bihar’s Chapra district and worked as an employer at Siddharth Automatic India Private Limited. His body was discovered on January 8 after villagers informed police about an unidentified body lying near the pond.
The police reached the spot and found Alam with serious injuries. An ID card was also recovered from his bag. The body was sent for postmortem and was handed over to the family for burial.
The family of the victim approached police on January 21 which changed the course of the case. His family lleged that the accused killed Alam over money.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Prateek Kumar said, “The family said that the accused had made a transfer of ₹40,000 from Alam’s account via UPI.”
A murder case was then registered and investigation was initiated. The police reached call details and bank transactions and arrested Virendra Yadav from Laskarpur village on January 25.
The police stated that during interrogation, the accused claimed that he had earlier worked with Alam in a company in Benguluru.
The accused further claimed that during those days Alam tricked Singh into eating beef and later told about the incident in his friend circle to lead to “humiliation”.
