“The process is the punishment,” human rights defender Khalid Saifi told Maktoob on Monday after walking out of Delhi’s Tihar Jail.
In a significant development in the 2020 Delhi violence conspiracy case, the Supreme Court on Friday granted six months’ interim bail to Khalid Saifi and Tasleem Ahmad, both arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Both Saifi and Ahmad walked out of jail late Monday night after spending nearly six years behind bars.
With tension and relief visible on their faces, the families of both Saifi and Ahmad stood outside Gate Number 3 of Tihar Jail, eagerly waiting to receive their loved ones.
Despite the Delhi Police allegedly creating a hostile environment by releasing them late at night and making Saifi exit through a different gate, the families remained in high spirits.
Ahmad’s wife, son and daughter stood silently outside the prison, their eyes fixed on the gate. “It has been so difficult, especially for my children,” his wife, Fehmida Khatoon, told Maktoob.
