A Dalit woman, Reshma Kamble, has accused a North Indian Gupta family in Vile Parle of physically assaulting her and her injured son following a dispute over a roadside business. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, reportedly involved casteist slurs targeting Kamble’s Chamar community, with the accused allegedly telling her, “You belong to the Chamar caste, and your job is to beg.”
In a viral video, Kamble claimed the family locked her and her son in a room and beat them for 15 minutes. She stated that three men and one woman from the Gupta family attacked her, pulling her by the hair and severely injuring her neck. Meanwhile, her son, who was already wounded, was also beaten by two sons of the accused and their mother.
Kamble alleged that when she approached the police station with her son, the accused threatened her with death in the presence of officers. She further accused the police of siding with the Gupta family, abusing her, and trying to eject her from the station instead of taking action.
