Mathura: Dalit groom was beaten and forced to get off his wedding carriage by a group of men from Jat community in Bhureka village of Nauhjheel police station area in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh.
The incident took place when the wedding procession arrived in the village and the groom climbed onto the decorated carriage as the DJ music started playing.
Eyewitnesses said three young men, along with 20 to 25 companions, suddenly stopped the procession. They objected to the DJ music and the groom sitting on the carriage. The groom and his family members were allegedly abused using caste-related slurs and were physically attacked. The attackers threatened the groom, warning that if he sat on the carriage again, he would be shot.
The situation created panic and chaos at the wedding site. After the family informed the police, officers from the local station and post in-charge quickly reached the spot and brought the situation under control. With police presence, the wedding procession was allowed to move forward, and the marriage rituals were later completed under their supervision.
The groom’s family told the police that the attackers stopped the celebration without any provocation. The groom was dragged off the carriage, beaten, and threatened with death.
On the other hand, the circle officer (CO) of Mant said that the dispute appeared to be about playing loud DJ music and denied that the wedding procession was stopped. He added that the full matter is under investigation and strict action will be taken based on evidence.
