After criticising late veteran communist leader V.S. Achuthanandan, Muslim activist Abid Adivaram has been booked in an FIR, with DYFI members pasting posters on his office labelling him a “terrorist” and calling for investigations into alleged foreign terror links.

Following Achuthanandan’s passing, Adivaram wrote on his Facebook wall: “V.S. departs after having taught Malayalis what a true communist is, and leaves behind enough reminders for the likes of Vellappally (Nateshan) and Yogi Adityanath to constantly reflect upon.”

The post was seen as a veiled criticism of Achuthanandan’s alleged remarks in 2010 and 2015, which many flagged as “Islamophobic.”

The posters pasted by the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), the youth wing of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), at the FASA Foundation—an organisation Adivaram founded in memory of his late wife Fathima Sajid—read: “Recognise the extremist who posted a casteist message against Comrade VS. Uncover the financial dealings hiding behind the veil of charity.”

Another poster stated: “No forgiveness for the extremist who insulted Comrade V.S.”

Adivaram responded to the notice by stating, “One notice is enough to identify an organisation,” implying that the act itself revealed the party’s true character.

Reacting to the DYFI posters outside his office, Adivaram criticised what he described as a pattern of communal suspicion, stating: “From E. Ahamed (late IUML veteran and former Union minister) to Abid Adivaram, the communist conscience—from V.S. to the DYFI in Thamarassery—sees us all as extremists betraying the nation. That is precisely the ideology I constantly resist through my words.”

He further noted the irony behind the accusations: “You brand every Muslim who criticises Pinarayi Vijayan’s Home Department as a terrorist. What I expose is your shameful politics.”
