The Congress on Thursday (November 13, 2025) accused the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of hiring “one of Pakistan’s official lobbying arms” to advance its interests in the United States, alleging that the organisation had once again “betrayed national interest”.

The RSS denied the allegations. “Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh works in Bharat and has not engaged any lobbying firm in United States of America,” Sunil Ambekar, the chief spokesperson of the RSS, said in a post on X.

Earlier, Congress general secretary (communications) Jairam Ramesh claimed on X that the RSS had “spent a significant amount of money” to engage the American law firm Squire Patton Boggs (SPB) to lobby on its behalf in the U.S. This lobbying firm has also represented Pakistan, Mr. Ramesh alleged.

“A few days ago, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat admitted that the RSS isn’t a registered organisation and does not pay taxes. Now, we learn that the RSS has engaged one of Pakistan’s official lobbying arms to espouse its interests in the U.S.,” he said in his post.

“This is hardly the first time that the RSS — with its long record of betraying the freedom movement, opposing Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Ambedkar, and attacking the Constitution and the national flag — has acted against national interest. It is a pseudo-nationalist outfit,” he said.

The Congress leader also shared a screenshot of a journalist showing lobbying disclosures of the U.S. Senate that purportedly showed Squire Patton Boggs registered as a lobbyist for the RSS.
